Keep Calm, & Carry On

Okay, so I got this little book for Christmas from my ‘spiritual’ Godmother, called 101 Things I Learned in Fashion School by Alfredo Cabrera with Matthew Frederick. Heard of it? Probably not, it’s quite small, just a few words of wisdom on each page, but I’ve generally learned a lot from it to be honest.

and I’m pleased to say I have all 5 of the 5 C’s of design down!

I know I’m designing for me, a customer similar to myself, young adult, girl, slim, quirky, stylish etc.

I hear a lot of designers say things like ‘I want to make clothes that make whoever wears them feel beautiful’, that is the initial idea of my GIRLFRIEND JEANS but, at the same time, I want them to be simple, basic, just with a twang of femininity, a dash of another fabric. Because this project said ‘design for an existing brand, I was gonna go for River Island as I relate to it the most, but I went the extra mile and said ‘Imogen Fuchsia for River Island’, because I wanted to include PROJECT DAMASSÉ in my uni work too.

I got my fabric from Truro Fabrics, and I’m using some left over silk and lace from the KEYS & LOCKS project which I got from London, which explore my personality in a way that Cornwall & London are both my homes. I chose the fabric in a different colour than blue, because I wanted to be slightly different. Blue jeans are the classic, but I want to step outside that a little, as I ususally do in some shape or form.

Been looking at my own skinny jeans for fitting inspiration

Here are my final designs, including on figure, flats and samples.

Making the toile and the actual thing, then doing the photo shoot over the next 3 days. Wish me luck!

Love the colour palette and fabric textures for these jeans.
